Edward Ruscha: Editions 1959–1999

October 23 – December 23, 2000
USF Contemporary Art Museum

Ed Ruscha, Standard Station, 1966. Lithograph.

The USF CAM is one of three museums in the United States to host the exhibition of Ed Ruscha's entire graphics production (over 200 works), organized by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. Since the sixties he has created prints, paintings and films in a variety of styles including figuration, abstraction, realism, surrealism, minimalism, pop and conceptual art. Throughout his career he has produced prints and artist's books that embrace the vernacular of America's landscape, its cities and its popular culture. He captures the essence of Los Angeles by embracing its popular culture with wit and cunning. This exhibition will have particular resonance for the Tampa Bay community, as Ruscha was a featured guest artist with USF's fine art atelier, Graphicstudio in 1970. Numerous catalogs of Ed Ruscha's work are available through the USF CAM Museum Store. For information on price and availability call (813)974-4133 between 10am and 5pm EST M–F and between 1pm and 4pm on Saturday.

Edward Ruscha: Editions 1959–1999 was organized by the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis. It is made possible by generous support from the Lannan Foundation, Dayton's Frango Fund, Goldman, Sachs & Co., and the Douglas S. Cramer Foundation.

The exhibition at the University of South Florida is sponsored by AmSouth Bank, the St. Petersburg Times, Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Arts Council; and friends of the USF CAM. Mr. Ruscha's lecture presentation is sponsored by the University Lecture Series (ULS).
