Richard Anuszkiewicz
Richard Anuskiewicz is known for his investigations into the properties and qualities of color in an abstract, hard-edged geometric style. A practictioner of "Op" (for optical) art, the artist's works for Graphicstudio include prints, bas-relief constructions and welded steel sculptures, made between 1972 and 1992.
Anuskiewicz's first collaboration at the studio yielded a series of lithographs exploring very light colors in delicate gradations, which represent a tour de force of the art of printmaking. Suncoast, Largo, Clearwater, Tampa Summer and Tampa Winter offer differing studies of the particularities of the climate the artist, a northerner, encountered during his work in Tampa.
Works created in the '90s at Graphicstudio are more typical of Anuszkiewicz's color work, contrasting bright, flat complementary colors. Blue Tinted Star, Triangular Yellows and Grey Tinted Rainbow combine lithography and silkscreen in cutout shapes which are very cleanly assembled together in precise geometrical forms. The welded sculptures, including the large-scale unique construction Azure, project the effects of color on perception into the third dimension.
